THANKS DENOMINATION

For inspiration, Denomination’s creative director Margaret Nolan was inspired by Scotsman Charles Rennie Mackintosh, whose artistic vision created a modern movement and especially by his design philosophy: restraint and economy of means rather than ostentatious accumulation; simple forms and natural materials rather than elaboration and artifice; and the use of texture, light and shadow rather than pattern and ornament.

Her bottle combines the dramatic mouth and neck of Estal’s Tramo Alto with the chunky glass base of Philos Bold.

Die-cut squares in the Kurz label create texture, light and movement. The neck label seal is embossed with details of the famous entrance to the Glasgow School of Art and the wooden stopper has touches of copper and hints at Mackintosh’s stained glass designs. The bottle cage is inspired by his 1903 Willow Chair, with the light glowing through the whisky, enhancing the texture.

As a final acknowledgement to the great man, a line from his writing is etched into the base of the bottle.

This project was made possible by EstalAvery Deninson and Leonhard Kurz, leaders in premium packaging innovation.
